Playing with Low Hands in Limit Holdem
After playing Texas Limit Holdem for a while, the time will come when you will be dealt the low hands. While it is a situation that no player wants to be in, there are ways that it can be handled without folding.
The low hands in Limit Holdem include 66s pair and under, suited cards 5 and below, Ace and ten off suit, King and ten off suit, Queen paired with an off suit ten, and a King or Queen paired with a 9.
It should be made clear, however, that these hands are extremely difficult to work with, let alone be turned into winning combinations. There will be times that your only Limit Holdem strategy would be to fold.
For instance, if you are directly to the left of the dealer and are handed one of these combinations, then you must fold. There is simply nothing you can do with them at an early position.
If the table is full of loose players, you may also have to fold, particularly if you are again early. However, if the table is tight, and you are to the right of, or are the dealer, then a viable Limit Holdem strategy would be to bet or raise with one of these low hands.
Either your bluff will work, and all the players will fold, or as is more likely, some will see the flop, but at a lowered cost. That is still good for you, because what you really need is to see the pot.
If you are holding a 66, it is not much, but if the flop turns up a 6, then you will have a set, or if the turn and river produce a pair, a full house, although that is a long shot. A K9 can also turn into a two pair with the right flop.
As stated earlier, low hands can also be used for bluffing. If you see a tight table and have a good read on the players, then you will be able to make the others fold.
One thing that you have to consider in your Limit Holdem strategy is that of your stack. If you are low on chips, then you may want to simply fold and wait for another hand. But if you are the aggressive type, then you may want to go all in and try to get the win.
Playing low hands in Limit Holdem is no doubt hard, and is something that no player likes, but will sooner or later find himself in. However, it is important that you know all the available options, because, when it comes right down to it, this is what will separate the winner from the loser.
You will not always win with this hand, but by trying out different Limit Holdem strategies, you will be able to increase your knowledge of the game, and in some instances, take the pot.
